My Reflective Learning work:
This semester I learned entrepreneurship
this subject, this subject is mainly finished by two items, one is business
plan and another is entrepreneurship day.
As far as I am concerned, Thinking and Problem Solving Skills, Communication
Skills, Interpersonal Skills, Intrapersonal Skills. These four skills are most important
skills for me to completed the group assignment.
Thinking and problem solving skill is about think
creatively and define& analyze problem to arrive at effective solutions. For
example, before the entrepreneurship day, we needed to discuss what products we
want to sell, finally we decided the product which was traditional Chinese food
“Liang Pi”, I am the person who mentions the idea, and thus think and problem
solving skill is the skill which is really required to complete the group assignment.
Secondly, communication skills are used quite a lot in
the group assignment. For example, as a leader, I created a group in facebook
which is named HTM 3403 entrepreneurship for hospitality. And I added all of
our group members in this group. We always discussed and posted some ideas in
this group and we communicated a lot about every detail for our business plan
and discussed a lot about creative idea for our product.
Thirdly, interpersonal skill is about understanding team
work and assumes leadership. Actually, this skill really helps me to complete
the whole thing, because in order to exercise myself, I was voluntary to become
the leader for our group. There are so many memorable things happened during
the whole subject, the interpersonal skill give me a lot support to me and let
me now can be pound of myself right now.
Last but not least intrapersonal skills, since I am the
first time become leader for the activity. I have no experience before, and
this skill helped me to always reflect my actions and learning and about
reflect other group members’ actions and suggestions. Simply to say, it makes
me perform better and better.
When talking about the most challenging part about
working in a group, for me, as a leader, it is my first time, I was lack of
experience. So my challenging is 1.how can I let all group members accept me
and 2. how can I leaded my group to cooperate well, every time I remember the
period of this subject, it is the processes that can be understand just by
myself. It is difficult for me to gather my group member, the fact is that we
are not like other group and our group looks like sand, cannot be together. But
I know each of them has their own strong points, their abilities are totally no
problem even good.
Because some reasons (sorry here I do not mention what are
they, because I think no need, no meaning now to say something, after all
finally we worked together well and received good marks, also I believe that
now everybody in my group, I cannot simply say respect me but at least they can
understand me now), at the beginning of this subject, I felt quite tired
communicating with my group members, even sometime I was talking with them I feel
that time I was fighting with them. Maybe they did not be aware of it, while as
a leader of this group I could completely feel it, and in this period of
beginning time, I was suffering about it, especially I was suffering in mental.
Actually I have forecasted what I was facing when I am voluntary
to become the leader, but the facts are totally different with what I have
forecasted, so many changing make me be taken by surprise.
But finally, as I said just now, everything is changing
all the time; I also cannot forecast that I was successful to lead my group and
gather them together to complete our task well. So what did I do? Firstly, those
four skills really helped me and supported me quite a lot, I was insisting on
using them, practice in everywhere, for example, I communicated with everyone
for their thinking and idea, and share my thinking and idea to everyone. In addition,
I continuously reflect myself, what I did well and what I did badly. Beside these
skills, important thing is my spirit; it is strong enough for me to overcome
all of the challenging.
How did I feel about being the
leader? My feeling is called pain with happy.
Of course it is pain, since I was
suffering in physical and psychological. In psychological, I already mentioned
above in my challenging part, while in physical, I have checked all the stuffs
written by my group members for business, whatever grammar mistakes, logical
mistake, and common sense mistake, if I could found I would repair them, so it
took me a quite long time to do. However, I was still new in leadership; I remembered
that our group forgot to put the selling price in the business plan.
What I was happy; I am sure
whether my group members have same feeling with me, when I was holding the
whole business plan (soft copy), and read it. I found that all of my efforts
did not waste, I even wanted find a place to cry. And the all of the pain
before are just noting to me.
What was the best part of
working in a group? The atmosphere which about the whole group is working
together is the best part for me. I remember the day before the entrepreneurship
day. We went to cong’s house to package “Liang Pi” and other season. Everybody
sited around and packaged. The time is one of the times which I really felt we
are really one team. We were work hard for same thing, same goal.
Could I do things differently?
Even I am new in leadership, I still think I could. During the assignment I came
up with a lot of creative ideas which are related to country unique feature. The
example can be both the business plan and selling product. Our business plan is
restaurant opening plan, I made it become Chinese and Korea mix restaurant, I mentioned
this restaurant can do set menu to be aimed at our Taylor’s university’s
situation. And in entrepreneurship day, we were also the only one group selling
the Chinese food “Liang Pi” which contain Chinese food feature, and we were successful
to attract a lot of Chinese student, to make profit and let the people remember
us at the same time.
The only difference about
working with course mates from different background for me is about language. Beside
two Korea classmates, others are all Chinese. Actually, after almost 2 and half
years, I can work very well with these two lovely Korea girls; I can explain
very clearly to them what my thinking is. Even if I speak in English while not
Korea. But sometime since English is not both of our month tongue, something
cannot be described in perfect way, but it doesn't matter.
Which part of this assignment
did I do very well and not very well? In fact I am quite satisfied with my
performance in these assignments. In my opinion, the whole ideas about business
plan and selling product, this part I did very well. Because firstly both of
them are creative, and the ideas I connect them with our group background. And
the ideas show our respects to the two countries. In addition, when I gave the
ideas I have forecast some results, for example I have considered whether “Liang
Pi” can be sold out or not. Finally the
result proved my idea was good and workable.
For me, I think I did not very
well in organization. Because firstly, as I mentioned many times, I lack of
experience in leadership. Especially, at the beginning, I could not properly
gather my group and allocate the job. And also sometime I was still too weak to
show my prestige to everybody.
Finally, I think the Discipline
Specific Knowledge, this skill I need to improve. This one is about able to put
theories into practice. For example, why I think I need to improve, because if I
can use this skill properly, our group would not forget to put the selling
price for menu. In addition, during entrepreneurship day, sometime we cannot
use proper selling promotion, we shouted and sometime the customers were scary
to skip. But if I can use the promotion
which I learned in class, we could attract more guests. Thus I think this skill
I still need to improve.
On conclusion, this subject is
really meaningful for me and I will remember what happened in this subject
forever.
